Care Guide · No. 01
Here's the thing nobody tells you: your graphic tee's print doesn't crack because the print is cheap — it cracks because of how it's washed. Prints and cotton both hate one thing above all: heat. Treat a good tee right and the artwork stays sharp for years. Here's the full playbook.
Why prints crack and fade (spoiler: heat)
Screen and DTG prints sit as a flexible layer on top of the fabric. Two things damage that layer over time: high heat (which makes the print brittle so it cracks, and fades the colour) and friction (rubbing against other clothes, zips, and the drum). Almost every "the print cracked" story traces back to hot water or a hot dryer.
The wash rules
- Turn it inside out. This protects the print from friction in the wash — the single most important habit.
- Cold water, always. Cold (or up to 30°C) keeps the print flexible and stops colours bleeding. Hot water is the fastest way to age a tee.
- Gentle cycle, mild detergent. Skip harsh detergents and anything with bleach or strong "brighteners" — they eat into prints and colour.
- Wash with similar colours, and avoid overloading so there's less rubbing.
Drying: where most tees die
The dryer's high heat is what cracks prints and shrinks cotton — not the fabric quality. Best options, in order:
- Air dry flat or on a hanger, out of harsh direct sun (sun fades colour over time too).
- If you must tumble, use the lowest heat / air-dry setting and pull it out slightly damp.
Ironing & storage
- Never iron directly over the print. Turn the tee inside out and iron the back of the design, or iron around it, on low heat.
- Fold, don't over-hang heavyweight tees long-term — hanging can stretch the shoulders over time. Folding keeps the boxy shape.
Quick don'ts
- Don't use hot water.
- Don't tumble on high heat.
- Don't bleach or use aggressive stain removers on the print.
- Don't iron the design directly.
- Don't leave it drying in blazing direct sun for hours.
Do all of that and a good tee genuinely lasts years — the joke outlives the meme it's referencing.

Frequently asked questions
Wash inside-out in cold water on a gentle cycle, skip harsh detergents, and air-dry or tumble on the lowest heat. Cracking is almost always caused by high heat and friction, not by the print itself.
Can I put graphic tees in the dryer? It's best to air-dry them. If you must use a dryer, use the lowest heat or air-dry setting and remove the tee slightly damp. High dryer heat is the main cause of cracked prints and shrinkage.
What temperature should I wash graphic tees at?Cold water, or up to 30°C. Cold keeps the print flexible and prevents colours from fading or bleeding.
Can I iron a graphic t-shirt?Yes, but never directly over the print. Turn the tee inside out and iron the back of the design, or iron around it, on a low setting.
